The Bilby Awards dinner is over for another year, and what a great night we had, with almost 100 community radio people from across the state coming together to have a laugh and celebrate the winners and runners up! Congratulations to all involved.

1079 Life broadcast live from the show grounds during the Royal Adelaide Show in 2016. They ran competitions, stunts and interviews, providing a great opportunity to meet more of the Adelaide community, making themselves more approachable in a live environment.

Winner – Three D Radio
Blenheimfest is held on a farm in the Clare Valley over Good Friday and is a locally supported not-for-profit music festival. Three D Radio broadcast live from the festival, with no equipment damaged – by weather, person or alcohol – the mobile connection worker perfectly, new friends were made, talented local musicians were showcased, funds were raised for charity, New Hope Cambodia, and great community radio was created.

1079 Life broadcast live the ice hockey match between Adelaide Adrenaline and the Sydney Ice Dogs at the Adelaide Ice Arena. The entire 3 period game was broadcast along with a pre-game show and post-game interviews.

For the weeks leading up to Easter 1079 Life ran a giant Easter Egg hunt. It had the community involved and generated fun and excitement, resulting in many listeners getting their friends and families involved with the station.

The Prison Show is a request/dedication program that operates for South Australia’s prison community and their families. It performs a crucial service to the most marginalised and disempowered people in the community, providing powerful lines of communication from inside out and outside in. The 2017 Small Station of the year is – 100.5 WOW FM
WOW FM is a sub metro station based in Semaphore. Their community interest is the western suburbs, from Outer Harbour through to Grange and across to Woodville.
This makes WOW FM the Small Station of the Year for 4 consecutive years, an amazing achievement.
WOW FM is a station that recognises the need to engage with it’s community and also the importance of good governance.

Youth Contribution
Runner Up – Madison Kennewell, Gawler Community Broadcasting
In her first year of membership, Madison has not held back! She is a valued board member who has adopted the social media, journalism, graphic design, communications, public relations and membership portions of Gawler Community Broadcasting. Her copywriting skills have seen standardisation across briefs, consent & release forms, welcome packs and calendars, helping to bring the best possible outcomes for all broadcasters at GCBA. Madison has an easy and friendly manner and is conscientious in the fulfilment of her duties.

Winner – Peter Fitzsimmonds, 1079 Life
Pete has been volunteering with 2079 Life for almost 4 years. He has given his time and resources to either assist or to run the set up and technical side of almost every outside broadcast in the last 3 years. He comes in to do random jobs around the station and also uploads syndicated shows, updates software and assists with production. 1079 Life recognises Peter for his help over the years, a well deserving recipient.

Volunteer of the Year
Runner Up – Christine Brown, Radio Adelaide
Christine ‘is the glue, without her there is no Nunga Wangga. She really helps us every step of the way. She gave me the roving mic during Croc Fest and told me to talk to everyone I know. She gave me the confidence to do that’. Christine is an incredible connector of people, providing a solid platform for countless Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders by coordinating guests and making sure the team are trained, fed and supported emotionally. Because of the confidence and skills gained on Nunga Wangga many former members have gone on to other community radio stations across Australia to continue to be valuable contributors to community radio.

Dorian has been volunteering with Fresh 92.7 for 5 years. Dorian’s wide involvement in the station over the years, combined with his reliability and willingness to step in for others in an emergency has made him invaluable to Fresh 92.7. Dorian absolutely understands the the station’s goals and he respects and shares the values of the station. He aims to serve their community of interest to the absolute best of his ability,and as he has demonstrated time and time again, the limits of his ability are downright extraordinary!
